The Twilight Saga: New Moon Review (No Spoilers)

Updated: May 25, 2020

2/4 stars

The movie New Moondoes itself justice by putting Taylor Lautner’s Jacob Black in the spotlight. Jacob adds an interesting mix to the other characters, while Lautner is a good actor relative to the remainder of the cast.

Jacob’s straightforwardness and compulsiveness make him a charming foil to Bella’s soul mate Edward Cullen. Bella’s development with her relationship with Jacob quickly becomes a major component of the movie.

As far as special effects goes, the CGI for the werewolves and the vampire fighting scenes were spectacular. In terms of the cast, Michael Sheen, who plays Aro, displays the best acting we see so far in the series.

However, the film has several flaws regarding characters. InNew Moon, Bella loses her dignity by being unable to handle Edward leaving her. Her lack of emotional control disgraces her fearlessness displayed in the first Twilightmovie. Edward’s displayed love for Bella at this point is dry and repetitive.

In the end, the film is watchable for those who enjoy Stephanie Meyer’s narrative, but decisively worse the first installment of the Twilight franchise.
